Haradros River Hike in Mount Parnitha | Mola - Mesiano Nero

Hiking the Haradros River | Mount Parnitha

📅 Sunday, January 4, 2026

Bafi Refuge, Mola, Haradros River, Mesiano Nero.

The first Sunday of 2026 finds us on Mount Parnitha, hiking through fir forest on a route that combines mountain plateaus, flowing waters, natural springs and open views stretching from the Saloniki Plateau of the National Park all the way to the Evoikos Gulf. An ideal nature experience to escape the city without leaving Attica.

We start from Bafi Refuge and head towards Mola, passing through Kantalidi and Samari, with the highest peak of Mount Parnitha, Ornio, rising to 1350 m on our left. The trail is fully covered by fir forest, offering constant changes in scenery and a clear mountain atmosphere from the very first steps.

After the small chapel of Agios Petros at Mola, we make our main stop at the beautiful Mola Plateau. A wide open space that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply and fully enjoy the natural surroundings.

We then enter the trail of the Haradros River, which collects the waters of northeastern Mount Parnitha. In the past, these waters flowed through the Oinoi Gorge towards the Marathon plain, while today they are stored in the artificial Lake Marathon. Walking alongside the river creates a unique sense of movement and connection with the landscape.

Our return route follows Mesiano Nero, offering views towards the Avgo peak. Along the way, we encounter several natural springs above 1000 m, in a landscape that remains forested, calm and alive until the very end of the hike.
