Hiking in Oak Forest Moggostou

On Sunday 24/11 we will hike in the dense "Dryodasos" Moggostou forest in mountainous Corinthia. In one of the few remnants of the ancient oak forests of the Peloponnese.

The forest was declared an aesthetic forest of the NATURA network in 1977 and among the centuries-old oak trees it hosts a multitude of species of flora and fauna. Some of them are the black pine, the Aleppo pine, the heather, the Capellinian fir, the holly, the holly, the juniper, the koumaria as well as various types of wild flowers. In historical reports we find that lions lived in the Prehistoric Period, which "created" the mythical "Lion of Nemea".

The colors during the autumn months are charming, the carpet of fallen leaves in brown-yellow tones spreads at our feet, for the first kilometers of our route. And a view from the peaks of the small and large Ziria on the left accompanies us. we will make a detour to find ourselves at a point where the soil formations, the special relief of vertical rocks and small caves are interesting and the view from the intervening ravine of Hunis is impressive. From one point onwards the vegetation continues with groves and mostly sliders.

Around the middle of our route we will have the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful view of the Gulf of Corinth, the coasts and the mountains of Boeotia (Helicona and Parnassos) and Phocis if the horizon is so clear.We will hike between vineyards for about 800 meters and this at an altitude of 900m!

It is an easy route with a total length of about 10 km. Without big slopes and it is also ideal for children.

Lunch will follow in a local tavern. Those who wish to have a Vegan option should mention it as a comment during registration.
