Vytina – Nymfasia Circular Hike | Mount Mainalon, Arcadia
On Sunday, March 15, 2026, we invite you to a circular hiking experience in Arcadia, in the heart of the mountainous Peloponnese, on the slopes of Mount Mainalon. The route follows the 5th section of the Mainalon Trail and returns via the European long-distance path E4, connecting two historic Arcadian villages, Vytina and Nymfasia.

🔶 What you will experience
The experience begins in Vytina, where we will also walk through the traditional village before entering the trail. From here, we follow a downhill path leading to Mavra Litharia, an impressive limestone formation along the banks of the Mylaontas River, where flowing water has shaped a short yet striking gorge.

The route continues towards the stone bridge of Tzavarina, a historic crossing that once connected Vytina with the western villages of Gortynia. For part of the trail, we follow the riverbed before ascending through a shaded and lush forest of oak trees, firs, and kermes oaks, one of the most authentic sections of Mount Mainalon.
Upon reaching Nymfasia, we will walk through the village itself and discover a place deeply connected to nature and mythology. According to tradition, the village takes its name from the Nymphs, who were believed to bathe in the waters of the local spring under the watchful presence of Pan, adding a symbolic and mythical dimension to the journey.

The return to Vytina follows the E4 trail, completing a circular hike with constant changes in landscape, elevation, and atmosphere. This route fully reflects the authentic character of mountainous Arcadia and establishes Mount Mainalon as one of the top hiking destinations in the Peloponnese.
